SEB's International Trainee Programme

Do you want to challenge, change, and lead our company into the future? Then you should apply for SEB’s international Trainee programme.

The programme accommodates around 20 participants, of which most are based in Sweden and some in our international sites. It starts in early September every other year and lasts for nine months.

You are employed from day one in a specific role in the bank. Practical work is combined with training to support your development and career at SEB. You’ll work in your home department, take part in a business challenge, self-driven activities like rotations, and learning and networking sessions.

You’ll also visit SEB offices abroad and have the opportunity to do a four-week internship at another international SEB site after completing the programme.

What to expect:

  • Hands-on work and real impact – 70% of your time is spent in your department, contributing to meaningful projects
  • Learning modules – covering leadership, communication, and collaboration
  • Division Days, Hackathons & Business Challenges – to stretch your thinking and spark innovation
  • Networking – connect with SEB’s global community

Who we are looking for

We’re looking for young talents who are curious, driven, and ready to challenge the status quo. SEB is on an exciting journey, and we are looking for committed employees who want to drive SEB forward, find new solutions, and shape tomorrow’s banking together.

(General requirements for SEB’s International Trainee Programme) – You should:

  • Be about to graduate (before the programme starts) or have graduated less than a year ago from a relevant academic degree
  • You can communicate fluently in English, both spoken and written
  • Previous experience (part-time work, life abroad etc.) and involvement during your studies are advantageous but what matters most is your potential and passion
  • Be curious, eager to learn and willing to drive change

In our recruitment, SEB behaviors are something we consider when choosing whom to hire. These behaviors include creating value, acting long-term, and building positive relationships.

Structure of the programme

The structure of the programme is designed for you to spend 70% of your time in practice on-the-job and 30% with trainings and collaboration.

On-the-job practice

You belong to a home team from the start where you will get support and inspiration to grow and perform in your job assignment. Together with your manager you will plan rotations and gigs with other units and departments to get a broad understanding of how to work in a large international organisation. You also get the chance to plan for an international internship at another SEB office for up to 4 weeks after graduating from the programme.

Training and collaboration

You will participate in learning activities that include training in self-leadership, communication, negotiation, and other future competences. You will also have many opportunities to collaborate with fellow trainees, Tech Programme participants, and other colleagues; as well as solve real business challenges and self-drive other programme activities to customize your learning experience. You will be part of learning and influencing our way of working, as well as our culture and values.

Our recruitment process

We want to get to know you — and for you to get to know us. The process includes:

  • Psychometric tests
  • Interviews – digitally and/or on-site
  • A case exercise and presentation
  • An event to learn more about SEB and the programme, with insights from former trainees (digital option available)

If it’s a match, you’ll receive a job offer and begin your journey on the 1st of September with an onboarding at your department, followed by a joint kick-off and programme activities with your cohort.

Applications

The application period for the 2026 International Trainee Programme will start on 3rd November 2025 for Sweden. Deadline to apply is 11th January 23:59 CET.
